Northrop Grumman CEO Wes Bush Named to 2018 Wash100 for Merger & Acquisition Leadership

Calendar year 2017 saw another major aerospace and defense M&A activity through Northrop’s pending $9.2 billion acquisition of Orbital ATK as part of the Falls Church, Virginia-based defense contractor’s push to expand technology offerings and accelerate innovation efforts.
Bush said both companies aim to facilitate competition in critical security domains and broaden capabilities in support of clients’ requirements as well as yield value creation through the combination of both firms’ portfolios and “technology-focused cultures.”

Northrop is one of the eight companies that landed spots in February on a potential nine-year, $3.04 billion contract to help the U.S. Army research and develop space and missile defense technologies.
Under this contract, the company will compete for task orders related to the development of missile defense platforms and help the service branch meet requirements across the areas of cyberspace, directed energy and hypersonics.
Northrop also won several contracts this year that include a potential $812 million contract to produce gun mission modules for the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships, a $445 million contract with the U.S. Air Force for support work on AAQ-24 large aircraft infrared countermeasure systems and a $750 million contract with the Army to upgrade the service branch’s fixed-wing airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft.
Bush announced in July that Northrop had entered the engineering, manufacturing development phase for the Air National Guard’s program to update the active electronically scanned array radar aboard the Lockheed Martin-built F-16 Fighter Falcon jet.
A month after that, he expressed his support to a White House memorandum and said that intellectual property theft threatens U.S. national security and economic competitiveness.
