Emily Murphy, GSA Administrator, added to 2018 Wash100 for Contract Acquisition and Procurement Management Leadership

Executive Mosaic is honored to announce Emily W. Murphy, as an inductee into the 2018 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of the most influential voices in the government contracting arena — for her noteworthy accomplishments in managing compliance systems, federal acquisition regulations, facilitating ID/IQ contracts and GSA schedules in the GovCon industry.

The former senior advisor to the General Services Administration’s acting administrator and longtime expert on all things government contracting and procurement policy, Murphy manages a workforce that includes 11,600 full-time agency employees and annual contracts valued at an estimated $54 billion. She also worked as the GSA’s first Chief Acquisition Officer from 2005 to 2007, designing and executing a $60 million budget and notably, standardizing the agency’s acquisition rules in annual procurement.

The U.S. Senate reached a unanimous decision to confirm Murphy as leader of GSA in December, based on her vision and priorities for the agency’s advancement in “providing the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government and the American people.”

“I’m excited to work with the talented and dedicated team at GSA as we focus on my priorities as administrator, which include emphasizing ethical leadership, reducing duplication within our internal processes and across government, generating more competition at the contract and task order level, and increasing agency transparency,” Murphy said.

In an effort to streamline the organization, modernize IT and cut down on unnecessary expenditures, Murphy suggests adopting shared services to replace legacy systems in order to improve the agency’s cybersecurity policies.

“Fixing our underlying systems will reduce barriers to entry for small and innovative contractors,” Murphy said. “It will reduce barriers to access for customer agencies, allow them to devote their resources to their missions.”

A prime example of great leadership traits in-effect, Murphy understands the government contracting business, the role GSA plays in improving government efficiencies, and the steps that are needed to make the federal space better than it was before.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Emily Murphy and the GSA for their selection to receive this award.
