AT&T’s Wes Anderson Earns 2026 Wash100 Award for Advancing Federal Technology Innovation

AT&T's Wes Anderson. Wes Anderson, president of public sector and corporate officer at AT&T, won the 2026 Wash100 Award from Executive Mosaic.

Wes Anderson, president of public sector and corporate officer at AT&T, has won the 2026 Wash100 Award for his continued leadership in advancing federal technology innovation.

Anderson is being honored with his fifth Wash100 Award for advancing AT&T’s federal and public sector strategy, driving the adoption of advanced communications, 5G and artificial intelligence-enabled technologies in mission-critical government environments and fostering partnerships that strengthen national security and public safety operations.

“Few GovCon executives have the knowledge and experience of supporting the government like Wes. His background, including 15 years in a variety of executive positions at Microsoft directing divisions such as customer success, federal defense and worldwide public sector services, gives him a unique understanding and insight into technology to successfully deliver services to mission-focused government customers,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award.

“Wes helped lead a major initiative at AT&T in 2025. The company’s expanded LEO Cell Trailer infrastructure provided enhanced connectivity to help first responders better support heavily-impacted areas in Texas, Hawaii and Alaska. Wes has continually redefined GovCon success during his career and 2026 should be no different,” Garrettson continued.

Who Is Wes Anderson?

Anderson is a public sector technology executive with more than two decades of experience driving cloud adoption and digital transformation across federal and defense agencies. He currently serves as president of public sector and a corporate officer at AT&T, where he is responsible for shaping the company’s federal and public sector strategy, advancing technology adoption and strengthening partnerships that support government missions.

Anderson joined AT&T in December 2024 as senior vice president of federal, overseeing the company’s engagement with federal customers before being elevated to his current role in early 2025.

Prior to AT&T, Anderson spent 26 years at Microsoft, where he held a series of senior leadership positions focused on public sector and defense initiatives. Most recently, he served as VP of federal defense, leading efforts to deliver cloud and advanced technology capabilities to defense agencies. Before that, he was VP and general manager of customer success, where he helped drive adoption of cloud platforms across federal customers.

Earlier in his Microsoft career, Anderson served as VP of U.S. commercial services and services delivery, managing large-scale sales and delivery operations, and as VP of worldwide public sector services, where he led a multibillion-dollar global business supporting government clients. He also held roles as VP of U.S. public sector services and general manager of federal services.

Anderson began his career in public service at the U.S. Naval Academy, laying the foundation for his long-standing focus on supporting national security and government missions.

Anderson holds bachelor’s degrees in computer science from National University and Towson University, and completed management training at The Wharton School.

Why Is Wes Anderson Winning the 2026 Wash100 Award?

Anderson earned the 2026 Wash100 Award for his role in positioning AT&T as a trusted federal partner. He has consistently championed innovation and the adoption of secure, mission-focused technologies, advancing connectivity and technology initiatives that support the Department of War and other government missions.

Expanding AT&T’s Role in Federal Mission-Critical Communications

Under Anderson’s guidance, AT&T has deepened its federal presence by providing advanced communications capabilities tailored to government needs. A key example is the company’s $62.5 million Travel Telecommunications Services-V contract to provide telecommunications services for a Defense Information Systems Agency field element.

Driving Public Safety Connectivity

Anderson has helped AT&T prioritize the expansion of mission-ready networks supporting first responders nationwide. Through collaboration with the First Responder Network Authority, the company launched 1,000 new cell sites using Band 14 spectrum to enhance the reach and resilience of FirstNet. The company is also advancing satellite-to-cellular capabilities through its work with AST SpaceMobile, enabling public safety agencies to test direct-to-device connectivity in remote and disaster-impacted areas.

Strengthening Defense & National Security Partnerships

AT&T highlighted its commitment to national security priorities with its inclusion in the Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, or SHIELD, contract vehicle, a $151 billion effort tied to next-generation homeland missile defense under the Golden Dome initiative.

Investing in Regional Infrastructure

The company has also invested in physical infrastructure to better support the public sector and its customers. The opening of a 110,000-square-foot regional hub in Fairfax County, Virginia, in August 2025 positions the company closer to key federal agencies and decision-makers, enhancing collaboration and service delivery across government programs.

“Fairfax has been a model partner,” Anderson said. “Drawing on nearly 150 years of experience, we modernize customer networks for more efficient, secure and reliable communication. I look forward to what we can achieve together as we start this new chapter in Chantilly, Virginia,” he added.

Advancing AI-Enabled Technologies

Central to Anderson’s leadership is the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G and edge capabilities into federal operations. AT&T partnered with Ocean Power Technologies to develop and deploy PowerBuoy, an AI-powered autonomous monitoring and data collection system, in Monterey Bay.

“At AT&T, we modernize network infrastructure to support the technologies of the future,” said Anderson. “That’s why we’re proud to have launched a 5G cell site at sea with the Navy, Naval Postgraduate School, and OPT. This collaboration fuels our commitment to developing 5G and edge computing solutions for manned and unmanned naval platforms that support national defense, homeland security, and the maritime community,” he continued.
