Mac Curtis, Vencore President & CEO, Named to 2016 Wash100 List for Tech R&D Leadership
Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Vencore President and CEO Mac Curtis an inductee into the 2016 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena.
Curtis, who made the Wash100 list last year, assumed his role at the Veritas Capital-owned company in July 2013 when it was still known as The SI Organization.
He oversaw the Chantilly, Va.-based company’s acquisition of QinetiQ North America‘s services group in April 2014 for between $165 million and $215 million, then The SI’s relaunch and rebrand to Vencore that took effect in July 2014.
In mid-2015, Vencore announced the formation of a new internal organization to focus on what the company calls “high-end” services in research-and-development for government and commercial sector customers.
Vencore Labs was built out of the business formerly known as Applied Communication Sciences — which Vencore acquired in May 2013 — and has highlighted cybersecurity and data analytics as main focus areas for the internal R&D hub.
“We saw the acquisition of ACS as one to get very high-end systems engineering work and QNA services to broaden us,” Curtis said at the Vencore Labs launch event.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency selected Vencore and Raytheon‘s BBN Technologies subsidiary for contracts in June to help develop technologies for computing devices within an enterprise Internet network in an effort to help facilitate resilient communications across different networks.
The year 2015 also included Vencore’s renewal of its status as a third-party assessment organization for the federal government’s FedRAMP program to spearhead cloud computing technology adoption across agencies.
As a 3PAO, Vencore evaluates security and other technical aspects of cloud technologies from developers that seek to have their products acquired by agencies.
“As the federal government and commercial customers accelerate the adoption of cloud services, security and data privacy are critically important,” Curtis said at the time.
Curtis is a 25-year GovCon industry veteran whose prior experience includes leadership positions at DynCorp International, Vangent and its predecessor Pearson.
