“Doug Wagoner brings years of trusted management success to lead and transform LMI into a $1 billion player in the highly competitive research, logistics, AI support as well as the test and evaluation prowess,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award.
“In addition to LMI’s aggressive topline growth, Doug has built a scalable management team and locked in critically important agency relationships,” Garrettson continued. “Doug enjoys and has earned a long-standing reputation for mission success, impressive B.O.D. support, high morale (‘Best Places to Work’ Award from The Washington Post) and a brilliant future with talent both up and down the organization.”
Wagoner spoke to ExecutiveBiz for an Executive Spotlight interview in August and talked about LMI’s growth plan, information technology modernization challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact and operational changes in the U.S. supply chain management
“In terms of our long term growth, we do have a strategy to reach $750 million in revenue by 2025. By the end of 2020, we finished just under $400 million and we’ll be well above that mark by the end of this year. We are maintaining that trajectory thus far but it’s not only about growth,” he told ExecutiveBiz.
LMI ended calendar year 2020 with $397 million in revenue and $505 million in contract bookings. Wagoner said LMI plans to supplement its organic growth with acquisitions and diversify its customer base.
“While we want to grow in all sectors, we specifically want to grow disproportionately in intel and federal health to balance out the portfolio and then LMI will be able to ride the budget swings,” he noted.
In July 2021, LMI acquired Suntiva, a Falls Church, Virginia-based business transformation and technology company, as part of a push to broaden the consulting firm’s digital and workforce-related offerings to federal government customers.
Suntiva provides services to the U.S. Army, Department of Agriculture, Joint Artificial Intelligence Center and other defense and public health agency clients, and LMI seeks to gain new clients in the mentioned markets through the deal. The transaction also increased LMI’s workforce to more than 2,000 consultants bringing in IT, federal acquisition lifecycle knowledge, governance and domain expertise.
“This acquisition enhances our transformative solutions and expands expertise across a broader federal landscape to serve our clients better. LMI and Suntiva share a strong culture and mission focus, a commitment to sterling ethics, and a people-first mindset,” said Wagoner.
In March 2021, LMI agreed to expand its partnership with Howard University and help it pursue academic research that supports the needs of the company’s government customers. The company’s research institute combines LMI’s government client-centered programs with studies and insights from Howard University and other leading universities.
“As a research university and leader in STEM fields, Howard University is an exceptional academic institution. LMI is very pleased to expand our long-term partnership between Howard University and our LMI Research Institute,” Wagoner said.
In mid-November, Wagoner participated in Baird’s 2021 Government & Defense Conference and discussed the company’s growth strategy and focus towards establishing the company in new markets. He also talked about LMI’s data-driven approach and touched on artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics.
Wagoner joined LMI in August 2020. The more than 30-year federal IT and management consulting industry leader previously served as a sector president at Science Applications International Corp. Prior to SAIC, he held senior leadership roles at DSA, ChoicePoint and EDS, which now operates as DXC Technology.
Wagoner said he is proud to join LMI, which has served customers in the defense, intelligence and health markets with its analytics and other technology platforms.
