Steve Harris, SVP & GM of Dell Technologies, Named to 2020 Wash100 for Innovation in IT Modernization, Cloud
Executive Mosaic is honored to present Steve Harris, senior vice president and general manager of Dell Technologies, as an inductee into the 2020 edition of the Wash100 Award for his commitment to innovation and use of information technology, cloud adoption and other emerging technologies to help improve American life.
This marks the fifth consecutive Wash100 Award for Harris. Executive Mosaic recognizes that winning one Wash100 is an achievement in itself, but receiving the award for five consecutive years demonstrates a level of excellence in government contracting that deserves to be celebrated.
Harris secured his fourth Wash100 Award in 2019 for leading Dell Technologies, formerly Dell EMC Federal, to assist federal clients modernize IT infrastructures, improve cybersecurity posture and help transition them to cloud-based platforms. His efforts to continue pushing federal agencies to implement cloud and IT modernization are why Harris has earned his fifth Wash100 award.
Back in February, Harris argued that artificial intelligence, software-defined network infrastructure, the internet of things and other emerging technologies are the key drivers for IT modernization in the federal government. He has reiterated that a “solid foundation“ will be extremely important to support new technology capabilities as they become more advanced and produce stronger results.
“[It's] all about improving the quality of American life and improving outcomes for our nation “” and IT modernization plays a foundational role in enabling better outcomes for America,“ said Harris during an interview with Meritalk.
Harris has been most adamant about the future of cloud in the federal government. He's advocated that a multicloud approach for federal agencies could achieve greater flexibility in infrastructure and would help reduce technical debt.
“A multicloud strategy takes into account the distinctive security levels for each specific workload,“ Harris said. “For example, deciding that certain sensitive information can stay on-premises, while public-facing information could be hosted off-premises.“
Harris has explained that a hybrid cloud platform could help agencies reduce the amount of application re-platforming and redesign otherwise required to migrate applications on-premises, to edge locations, or across multiple public clouds. He argues that federal agencies should look to the long term to determine how their infrastructure needs to evolve in the decades to come.
“My first Dell assignment was in the Higher Education segment, Harris said during another recent interview with Meritalk. “What a wonderful start in an area that delivers breakthroughs that unlock new possibilities for America. Just over 5 years ago I was asked to move to head up the Federal space. It's been quite a learning curve and I enjoy every minute of my job.“
Executive Mosaic congratulates Steve Harris and Dell Technologies for receiving the 2020 Wash100 Award for the fifth consecutive time. Harris' commitment to innovation through cloud, IT modernization and other missions will bring great change to the GovCon sector in 2020 and beyond.
