Larry Prior, Carlyle Group Operating Executive, Inducted Into 2019 Wash100 for Providing Investment Guidance on Management, Operations and Growth Strategies

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce Larry Prior, an operating executive for The Carlyle Group, as an inductee into the 2019 Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of the most influential voices in the government contracting arena — for providing investment guidance and advice on management, operations and growth strategies.

Prior, a Wash100 Award recipient for the fifth consecutive year, joined Carlyle in June 2018 to share his more than 30 years of experience in the public and private sector. He previously worked on intelligence, security, technology and defense initiatives.

Jim Garrettson, CEO at Executive Mosaic, wrote that Prior’s move to Carlyle indicates the company’s “renewed focus in the federal market.”

Prior served as president and chief executive at CSRA. He oversaw the merger between SRA International and the Computer Sciences Corp. to form CSRA in late 2015. He led the company to become a primary broker and systems integrator for federal agencies modernizing their digital infrastructure, cloud-based platforms and data analytics.

Recently, Prior managed the $9.6 billion buyout of CSRA by General Dynamics in February 2018. Phebe Novakovic, chairman and CEO of General Dynamics and a fellow Wash100 recipient, said at the time that the deal expands the services and client base of the company’s information technology business.

Tiffanny Gates, president and CEO of Novetta, and another fellow Wash100 Award winner said she looks forward to working with Prior to expand the firm’s presence in the national security and defense community. Carlyle purchased Novetta in 2015.

“As a leader in technology-enabled services, we are eager to leverage Larry’s deep industry knowledge and expertise,” Gates said in a statement.

Prior joined the board of directors at Novetta in August 2018. Shortly after his appointment, he stated that the federal government’s spending plans and demand for novel technology platforms would drive more mergers and acquisitions among contracting firms. He said there was a “summer lull” but anticipated “another wave of consolidation in M&A activity.”

He held leadership roles at BAE Systems, ManTech International and SAIC. Prior earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree in security studies from Georgetown University.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Larry Prior and the Carlyle team for receiving this award.
