12-Time Wash100 Winner Craig Abod Steers Carahsoft Through a Busy 2026

Craig Abod's Carahsoft Enters 2027 Wash100 Season With Wins
  • $970 million DISA pact anchors Carahsoft’s Department of War work
  • New vendor partners arriving almost weekly
  • Founder and President Abod will speak at Potomac Officers Club’s 2026 GovCon Executive Leadership Summit

Craig Abod has made a habit of showing up on the Wash100 list. The Carahsoft president and founder has earned 12 Wash100 Awards, 10 of them consecutive, tying the record for the most wins in the award’s history. A look at Carahsoft’s past several months suggests the habit isn’t going anywhere.

Since spring, the Reston, Virginia-based IT aggregator has locked in a near-billion-dollar Department of War software agreement, ridden a wave of fiscal year-end orders across federal civilian agencies, added new technology vendors at a brisk clip and collected a stack of partner honors. Each thread traces back to the channel-first model Abod has refined since founding the company in 2004.

With nominations for the 2027 Wash100 Award opening Nov. 10, Abod’s run offers a sharp benchmark for the kind of impact the award recognizes. GovCon leaders can also hear from Abod in person when he takes the stage as a panel speaker at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2027 GovCon Executive Leadership Summit on Feb. 25.

Who Is Craig Abod?

Abod founded Carahsoft in 2004 and has built it into one of the largest companies in the government technology market. Carahsoft closed 2025 with more than $22.5 billion in bookings and $125 billion in lifetime bookings, and it now supports more than 1,000 vendors with a workforce of roughly 4,000.

The company climbed to No. 20 on Forbes’ 2025 list of the nation’s largest private companies, up from No. 26 the prior year, with more than $18.9 billion in revenue, Virginia Business reported. Carahsoft’s federal prime contract revenue splits between roughly $1.04 billion in defense work and $750 million in civilian work, according to Washington Technology.

Abod’s approach centers on ecosystem enablement: opening public sector markets to startups and growth-stage firms through training, marketing investment and advisory support. Carahsoft onboarded 300 to 400 new partners in 2025 alone, and its Reston headquarters, now the Carahsoft Conference & Collaboration Center, welcomed more than 50,000 visitors over a single year.

As Abod put it when accepting his 2026 Wash100 Award:

“We are here to bring scale and speed to help our government customers find great technology, acquire great technology and implement it successfully.”

What Contracts Has Carahsoft Landed in 2026?

The year’s marquee award came in March, when the Defense Information Systems Agency granted Carahsoft and Broadcom a five-year, $970 million blanket purchase agreement to consolidate cloud and software procurement and standardize pricing across DISA, the Air Force, the Space Force, Fourth Estate agencies and combatant commands. Held by Carahsoft, the BPA gives defense agencies a single vehicle for the VMware Cloud Foundation platform, supporting private cloud infrastructure, zero trust security, tactical edge operations and application development, along with VMware vDefend, VMware Avi Load Balancer and Broadcom’s Clarity and Rally tools.

The VMware momentum carried into the summer. In August, Carahsoft secured an $82.9 million Air Force contract for VMware Cloud Foundation licenses and support across the Air Force Network, structured as a five-year base period with one five-year option, ClearanceJobs reported.

The close of fiscal 2026 then brought a flurry of high-value orders. In September alone, Carahsoft booked a $738.6 million Broadcom mainframe license agreement with the Social Security Administration, a $109.4 million ServiceNow enterprise BPA call for the IRS and a $17.3 million Splunk renewal for the State Department, according to GovTribe data.

Carahsoft’s planning horizon stretches well past the current year-end rush. In a recent Executive Spotlight interview, Vice President of Government Programs and Strategy Mike McCalip described how the company works years ahead of federal programmatic awards:

“At Carahsoft, we’re already working on fiscal year 2028.”

Carahsoft’s state and local footprint grew in parallel. A new National Association of State Procurement Officials ValuePoint Cloud and Software Solutions contract, led by Utah, took effect Sept. 16 and runs through 2036, opening Carahsoft’s cloud portfolio to participating states, education institutions and local agencies. On Oct. 1, the company also announced a partnership with CoreTrust Public Sector through a single-award cooperative contract covering IT products and professional services.

How Is Carahsoft Expanding Its Vendor Ecosystem?

New partner announcements have landed at a near-weekly cadence this fall, extending Carahsoft’s reach into geospatial intelligence, emergency communications, on-premise cloud and communications compliance. Recent additions include:

  • Pointerra, whose cloud-based 3D geospatial platform Carahsoft now offers to federal, state and local agencies in the U.S. and Canada (Oct. 16)
  • SnippetSentry, a mobile communications capture platform for regulated organizations (Oct. 8)
  • Aperio Global, adding spatial intelligence, AI sensemaking and quantum-resilient security offerings (Oct. 6)
  • Oxide Computer Company, which tapped Carahsoft as master government aggregator for its on-premise cloud computer (Sept. 24)
  • Intrado, whose 9-1-1 and mass notification offerings Carahsoft now distributes as master government aggregator (Sept. 3)

The fall run caps a year of steady portfolio growth. Carahsoft added artificial intelligence governance and risk tools from 2Trust.AI and Threat Digital, brought evoila’s VMware by Broadcom services to public sector customers and extended its zero trust connectivity offerings through OpenVPN.

Abod has lent his own voice to the expansion. When Carahsoft began distributing Verkada’s cloud-managed physical security platform in January, he pointed to its value for agencies guarding critical infrastructure.

“Verkada’s cloud-based security solutions provide Government agencies the tools they need to protect critical infrastructure and respond to threats in real time,” Abod said.

Carahsoft is also a central player in the General Services Administration’s OneGov strategy, which treats the federal government as a single buyer to unlock enterprise-wide discounts. The company is supporting 16 vendors in the program, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and xAI, with all of their solutions available on Carahsoft’s GSA schedule.

What Industry Honors Has Carahsoft Earned Lately?

Vendor partners have lined up to recognize Carahsoft’s channel work. On Oct. 15, Dynatrace named Carahsoft its 2026 Public Sector Distributor of the Year, presenting the award directly to Abod at the Carahsoft Conference & Collaboration Center. Dynatrace, which has relied on Carahsoft as its public sector distributor since 2023, credited the company with connecting it to key reseller and integrator partners and investing heavily in partner enablement.

The Dynatrace honor capped a summer of similar recognition. In July, operational technology cybersecurity company Dragos selected Carahsoft for its inaugural Public Sector Distributor of the Year award, and Arctic Wolf named Carahsoft its 2026 Authorized Distributor Partner of the Year.

How Can You Nominate a Leader for the 2027 Wash100 Award?

Nominations for the 2027 Wash100 Award open Nov. 10, and Abod’s next win would be his 13th, breaking the tie for the all-time record. When Abod earned his 2026 award, Executive Mosaic Founder and CEO Jim Garrettson pointed to the staying power behind the streak.

“Craig’s 12th Wash100 Award—and an incredible 10th consecutive honor—is a truly remarkable achievement and a testament to the lasting impact he continues to have across GovCon,” Garrettson said.

Why Should GovCons Attend the 2027 GovCon Executive Leadership Summit?

The Potomac Officers Club’s 2027 GovCon Executive Leadership Summit on Feb. 25 is built for C-suite and senior executives competing in a market where commercial technology and nontraditional contractors are challenging established defense and civilian primes. Attendees of the GovCon Executive Leadership Summit will hear strategies for capturing contracts, adapting to evolving acquisition processes and aligning with agency priorities.

Abod will join the lineup as a panel speaker, bringing a vantage point few executives share: a direct line of sight into how more than 1,000 vendors and their reseller and integrator partners reach government buyers.
