Mark Testoni, President and CEO of SAP NS2, Selected to 2018 Wash100 for Exceptional Achievement in Providing Secure IT Infrastructure and Cyber Solutions

Executive Mosaic is pleased to announce Mark Testoni, President and CEO of SAP National Security Services, has been inducted into the 2018 edition of the Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of the most influential voices in the government contracting arena — for exceptional achievement in providing data management solutions to federal clients. This marks his third year receiving the award.
Testoni is a strong advocate for private-public partnerships to prevent cyber attacks and promote cyber health. Last April, he wrote an opinion piece in The Hill urging policymakers to reduce legal barriers to threat information sharing between government and industry, and calling for the adoption of commercial technology platforms by federal agencies. Specifically, he mentioned technology acquisition approach and pace, privacy, intellectual property ownership and legal issues around disclosure as key conflict points hampering such efforts.
Along similar lines, Testoni recently spoke about the exposing of classified U.S. military bases through data from Strava, a San Francisco-based GPS tracking company. “Security breaches like this underscore the important nature of companies clearly explaining to consumers what data is shared on what applications,” he told the The New York Post in January. Apps should have labels describing their data privacy practices, similar to how food products contain nutritional labels, he added.
Testoni has also warned about the anonymous nature of bitcoin, saying the cryptocurrency is akin to a Swiss bank account and ideal for terrorist transactions. “It’s very hard to say criminals control 30% or ISIS controls x-percent,” he noted.
In November, Testoni made headlines when he announced SAP NS2’s plans to invest $6 million in its Herndon, Va., cybersecurity division. “This area offers us access to a talented tech workforce with close proximity to our customers and business partners,” Testoni said in the press release. In addition to providing secure IT infrastructure, the business unit also specializes in cyber threat detection including endpoint and user behavior analytics, and the monitoring of internal systems for anomalies.
Moreover, December saw the company’s SuccessFactors HCM Suite for Government receive FedRAMP JAB Provisional Authorization to Operate, which allows SAP NS2 to provide learning and talent management tools on a commercially-based cloud, with security requirements more stringent than the usual commercial cloud software. The company currently has five federal clients using the platform and expects to have more than 20 by the end of 2019.
In a collaboration between the two companies, the product operates using Amazon Web Services’ GovCloud (US). This platform’s adoption will help further federal IT modernization goals, commented Teresa Carlson, vice president of the latter’s Worldwide Public Sector unit, and a four-time Wash100 winner.
Beyond his executive functions, Testoni is engaged in several philanthropic ventures including founding NS2 Serves in 2013, a three-month in-residence program that trains and certifies veterans returning to the workforce, and serving as the chairman for the National Kidney Foundation’s annual Masquerade Kidney Ball.
Before heading SAP NS2 in 2011, Testoni spent more than nine years at Oracle, where he built their application business within the Department of Defense. He also served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, specializing in financial management, IT and logistics.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Mark Testoni and the SAP NS2 team for receiving this award.
