TRSS President Dana Barnes Receives 2026 Wash100 Award

Dana Barnes, president of Thomson Reuters Special Services, has accepted the 2026 Wash100 Award, marking his fourth recognition on Executive Mosaic’s annual list of influential leaders across the government contracting sector.

The award was presented by Jim Garrettson, Executive Mosaic CEO and founder of the Wash100 Award, during a visit to the TRSS office.

Why Did Dana Barnes Win the 2026 Wash100 Award?

Barnes earned his 2026 Wash100 recognition for driving the adoption of advanced technologies across the public sector, particularly in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital transformation and data-driven decision-making.

His appointment as TRSS president in January reflects a continued focus on scaling the company’s impact, with priorities centered on accelerating growth, strengthening operations, and deepening relationships with government and commercial customers that rely on data and analytics for mission execution.

Who Is Dana Barnes?

Dana Barnes is a longtime public sector technology executive with more than two decades of experience supporting government missions.

Before joining TRSS, Barnes held senior leadership roles across multiple technology firms, including Forrester, where he supported agencies navigating AI adoption and modernization efforts, and Dataminr, where he helped expand AI-driven alerting and crisis response capabilities.

His broader career also includes leadership positions at Palo Alto Networks and Microsoft, where he worked on initiatives spanning zero trust security, secure cloud adoption and large-scale digital transformation across federal agencies.

He spent more than a decade at Microsoft in progressively senior roles, including general manager of the national security group and vice president for state and local government, working with agencies across defense, intelligence and civilian sectors.

The executive also held leadership roles at Tower Software and Viisage Technology, focusing on defense, biometrics and identity technologies. Barnes began his career at IBM after serving as a U.S. Marine Corps artillery officer.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in information and telecommunications systems from Capitol Technology University.

What Is the Wash100 Award?

The Wash100 Award is Executive Mosaic’s annual recognition of the 100 most influential leaders across government and the government contracting ecosystem.

Each year, the award honors executives and officials whose leadership, innovation and strategic direction are shaping federal priorities and delivering measurable mission impact.

Widely regarded as one of the GovCon community’s most prestigious honors, the Wash100 Award highlights leaders driving modernization, technology adoption and national security outcomes across the public and private sectors.

Barnes’ fourth Wash100 recognition reflects his continued influence at the intersection of data, artificial intelligence and mission-focused technology. As TRSS expands its role supporting public safety, fraud prevention and national security efforts, his leadership is helping shape how agencies use data and AI to address complex challenges.
