The fateful day has come. The final 24 hours of voting for Executive Mosaic’s 2023 Wash100 popular vote contest are here, after three full months of the most significant and consequential names in government contracting and the federal sector duking it out for the general public’s renown.

The Wash100 Award was incepted in 2014 by Jim Garrettson, the CEO of Executive Mosaic, as a way to commemorate and anticipate the top talent of the moment and the immediate future of GovCon. Winners are CEOs, agency directors, technology experts and more, who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation, vision and reliability in recent times and are deemed likely to do so in the coming year. The popular vote contest pits each year’s 100 recipients against one another to determine the top 10 and ultimately, number one audience favorite.

There has been an avalanche of participation in the race in the last week as the recognized make one last push to seize the crown. There is a neck and neck battle playing out right now between Booz Allen Hamilton’s Judi Dotson and Google Public Sector’s Karen Dahut. Dotson is up less than 30 points above Dahut, at number four to Dahut’s number five. Dotson springboarded up from a number 21 placement last week in an exciting, head-turning maneuver. This late race surge could take her all the way.
Another Booz Allen executive who also showed tremendous progress this week, entering the top 30 anew at number nine, is Executive Vice President Steve Escaravage. Similarly working her way up the top 10 is last year’s popular vote winner, Department of the Air Force Chief Information Officer Lauren Knausenberger, who ascended two slots in the last week to a placement at number eight.
The stiff competition at the very top of this elite list remains the same, though in a slightly different order: Carahsoft founder and President Craig Abod has maintained his staggering nearly 1,300-point perch at number one, but Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is only a few hundred points behind at number two, marking his highest placement yet this year. A lot of people work at the Department of Defense—and Austin certainly has many fans—so this race is not over yet. Microsoft Federal President Rick Wagner is eyeing the bronze right now at number three.
