NGA’s Vice Adm. Robert Sharp Unveils Intent to Sustain GEOINT Supremacy

Vice Adm. Robert Sharp, director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and a 2020 Wash100 Award winner, has published a document expressing his intent to realign the GEOINT community’s priorities to meet mission needs in an evolving operational environment.

The Director’s Intent seeks to sustain GEOINT advantage by maintaining primacy of core missions, being the world’s premier force and pursuing a whole-of-enterprise approach, NGA said Thursday.

To support core missions, NGA intends to mobilize the "delivery of GEOINT content from any relevant sensor" and come up with visualizations and analytic content that could help assess current threats and predict future threats.

“We will take all necessary actions to sustain GEOINT supremacy and hold our adversaries at risk,” said Sharp. “We will measure our success by the value we provide to others: the speed, accuracy and precision with which we deliver actionable information to decision-makers and warfighters at every level.”

NGA’s Strategy 2025 and mission imperatives support the Director’s Intent. The agency’s mission imperatives call for the advancement of analytic workflow modernization; assured positioning, navigation, timing and targeting; data access/integrity; and accelerated tasking orchestration.
