Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Gives New Designation to Defense Microelectronics Activity

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who was a 2021 Wash100 Award recipient, has declared the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) as a Center for Industrial Technical Excellence (CITE), highlighting DMEA's role as a core competency leader for microelectronics.

This CITE designation allows DMEA to better support small deliveries of critical microelectronics and semiconductors internal and external to the Department of Defense, DOD said Friday.

“Our organic depot and arsenal CITEs provide critical core competencies to sustain systems and produce capabilities for the nation,” DOD's statement said.

DMEA can now also use public-private partnerships to establish collaboration between commercial companies and military depots.

The organization houses microelectronics research and development, as well as technologies, to support DOD's national security.
