Phil Carrai, president of the space, training and cyber division at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, has received the 2026 Wash100 Award in recognition of his leadership in advancing space and satellite communication innovation. This year marks Carrai’s first-ever Wash100 win.
Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award, visited Carrai at the Kratos Defense & Security Solutions office in San Diego, California, to personally present the honor.

Why Did Phil Carrai Win the 2026 Wash100 Award?
Carrai’s inaugural Wash100 win is a testament to his leadership in advancing cutting-edge space and satellite technologies that support national security.
With him at the helm, Kratos has made significant strides in space, satellite and ground systems innovation over the past year. The company supported major government initiatives, including a $25 million U.S. Space Force task order centered on its OpenSpace Platform for next-generation satellite communications, as well as its role in the Space Development Agency’s $117 million Advanced Fire Control Ground Integration, or AFCGI, program, including the completion of the preliminary design review.
Kratos also made progress in enhancing its existing product portfolio, with its OpenEdge 2500 integration-ready digitizer achieving Digital IF Interoperability Consortium standards.

Who Is Phil Carrai?
Carrai is a 30-year industry veteran with extensive experience in business operations, business development, and mergers and acquisitions across professional services, enterprise software and hardware, and private equity. As the president of the space, training and cyber division at Kratos, he oversees efforts spanning land and space communications, cybersecurity and training and simulation technologies.
He has been with Kratos since 2008, joining the company through the merger with SYS Technologies, where he served as president of IT solutions for two years. Prior to that, Carrai served as CEO of telecommunications software company Ai Metrix and McCabe and Associates, an analysis software firm. Between those roles, he served as managing director for ventures at the Morino Group. He started his career as vice president of resource management at Legent.
