Why Is Peter LaMontagne Winning the 2026 Wash100 Award?

LaMontagne secured his second consecutive Wash100 Award in 2026 largely for steering SMX during a critical growth phase, accelerating the company’s expansion through targeted acquisitions and partnerships.

Strategic Expansion Through M&A

A key development was SMX’s acquisition of cBEYONData in February 2025, a move that strengthened the company’s position in enterprise resource planning, financial analytics and budget management for the federal market. The transaction added implementation, design and managed services and introduced platforms such as CFO Control Tower and the cBEYONDLab cloud environment to SMX’s portfolio.

“cBEYONData brings valuable scale and technical expertise to our strategic growth plan to expand our work supporting the business of government. cBEYONData’s successful solutions at the ‘nexus of data and dollars’ is particularly relevant today as government executives and senior military leaders focus on financial transparency and accountability,” said LaMontagne.

Advancing AI & Mission Capabilities Through Partnerships

SMX also advanced its AI strategy through a three-year partnership with C3 AI.

The collaboration, aligned with the C3 AI Strategic Integrator Program, combines SMX’s cloud, cybersecurity and digital engineering experience with C3 AI’s enterprise agentic AI platform to develop applications for missions such as fraud detection, intelligence analysis and defense readiness while meeting federal security standards.

“By pairing C3 AI’s powerful platform with our Elevate Managed Services, we’re giving our clients more than advanced AI, we’re delivering secure, accredited solutions that meet the highest compliance standards and drive mission impactful outcomes,” LaMontagne stated.

SMX further expanded mission technology capabilities through initiatives with Google Public Sector and World Wide Technology under the Long-Range Enterprise Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance task order. The effort integrates AI, machine learning and digital productivity technologies to enhance operational workflows, communications and decision-making in military environments.

In addition, a partnership with ColorTokens supports federal agencies’ adoption of zero trust cybersecurity by advancing microsegmentation capabilities designed to protect critical infrastructure and operational technology environments.

Continued Contract Growth

LaMontagne’s recognition also reflects SMX’s strong contract momentum. A joint venture between SMX and Perrygo Consulting Group secured a $532.1 million U.S. Navy contract to deliver management services for comprehensive IT infrastructure and enterprise support for naval aviation operations.
