Why Is Dana Barnes Winning the 2026 Wash100 Award?
Barnes’ fourth Wash100 recognition reflects the breadth of his leadership across some of the GovCon sector’s most important technology priorities: AI adoption, cybersecurity modernization, digital transformation and data-driven decision support.
His latest career move came in January, when TRSS appointed him president to help guide the company’s growth and strategic development. TRSS said Barnes focuses on accelerating revenue growth, strengthening operations and deepening relationships with government and commercial customers that depend on data and analytics for missions tied to public safety, fraud prevention, risk management and national security.
Barnes’ appointment followed senior leadership roles across multiple technology and advisory firms. Most recently, he served as vice president of North America public sector at Forrester Research, where he worked with government technology leaders navigating AI adoption, digital modernization and mission transformation.
During his tenure at Forrester, the company announced more than $800,000 in new strategic contracts with state and local agencies, including the City of Minneapolis, the New York City Housing Authority and the City of Pittsburgh.
Forrester also expanded its public sector reach through a partnership with Carahsoft, which became the company’s Master Government Aggregator. The alliance broadened public sector access to Forrester’s research and consulting services through multiple procurement vehicles, giving federal, state and local agencies wider access to market intelligence, emerging technology research and generative AI-enabled insights.
Before Forrester, Barnes served as president of global public sector at Dataminr, where he helped expand AI-driven alerting and crisis response capabilities across government customers. In an interview with GovCon Wire about the White House executive order on responsible AI, Barnes emphasized the need for policy structure, standards and faster adoption pathways for government users while also underscoring responsible use, safety and coordination between industry and government.
Earlier, as senior vice president of U.S. public sector at Palo Alto Networks, Barnes was a prominent advocate for zero trust, federal Internet of Things security adoption, secure cloud adoption and the use of automation to help government teams keep pace with rapidly growing data volumes and cyberthreats. He led the delivery of AI products and services to government customers globally, helping them leverage real-time information to mitigate and manage crises more effectively. Under his leadership, Dataminr Government expanded its footprint across federal, state and local agencies while maintaining a strong focus on responsible AI use.
“Earning a fourth Wash100 Award is a momentous achievement that reflects the depth of experience and respected leadership Dana brings to GovCon,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award. “As he steps into his new role as president of TRSS, Dana arrives with a rich background shaped by senior leadership roles at some of GovCon’s most celebrated companies in Forrester, Microsoft, Dataminr and Palo Alto Networks.”
“That breadth of experience gives him a unique perspective on technology, markets and mission needs. This Wash100 recognition highlights Dana’s proven impact to date and signals strong confidence in the leadership and momentum he is poised to bring to TRSS and the broader GovCon community,” Garrettson continued.
