Kathy Warden, chairman, president and CEO of Northrop Grumman, accepted her fifth Wash100 Award from Jim Garrettson, founder and CEO of Executive Mosaic on Tuesday.
Warden’s fifth Wash100 Award win in the last six years is due to her leadership and vision to drive the company’s growth, secure major contracts with federal agencies and help advance technology for the U.S. military.
Most recently, the U.S. Air Force awarded Northrop Grumman a potential $13.3 billion contract to build the Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system. The engineering and manufacturing development contract covers weapon system design, test and evaluation and nuclear certification to replace the country’s aging ICBM system.
“Our nation is facing a rapidly evolving threat environment and protecting our citizens with a modern strategic deterrent capability has never been more critical,” said Warden.
Under Warden’s leadership, the company has also secured a $164 million contract on Sept. 3rd from the U.S. Army to manufacture mast-mounted assembly and radar electronics for AH-64E Apache helicopters in a joint venture with Lockheed Martin.
In addition, Warden has advocated for the Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites program to expand the capabilities of our nation’s satellites and space technology. The Defense Support Program mission threats, address anomalies, provide space awareness as part of a DSP satellite lifetime extension program
This includes a $222.5 million contract that Northrop received in June 2020 to help the U.S. Space Force operate and maintain a constellation of satellites used to detect ballistic missile launches and nuclear detonations.
“It opens up the market in that regard and clearly is an indicator that we would be able to service not only commercial but potentially government satellites as well. When we look at the market, we are bullish but cautious in that this is the first of a kind,” said Warden.
