In the last few weeks, some major developments have occurred. Department of the Air Force Chief Information Officer Lauren Knausenberger began the ranking process in January in the humble 20s but vaulted to number one in February and has remained in the top five for the two months since, yet without ever reclaiming number one. Until now. Knausenberger, a two-time Wash100 recipient, is holding onto number one as the deadline looms. Will she be able to maintain her lead?
Close behind her is General Dynamics Information Technology President Amy Gilliland, who also lingered in the 20s at the start of the competition, until late March when she began to climb swiftly up the list. When we last checked in a few weeks ago, Gilliland was at number 11, but now she has soared to number two, just behind Knausenberger.
It has become a race between government and industry and it is going to be a close one!

Additionally making notable strides this week was Defense Information Systems Agency Director Lt. Gen. Robert Skinner, who is tied with his highest-ever ranking at number four and Red Hat Vice President and General Manager Clara Conti, who is back in the top five at position number five where she began with a strong start in January and February. This is Conti’s first Wash100 Award.
Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer Aaron Weis displayed a strong showing in recent weeks, moving from 22 to 11 and achieving his highest ranking yet. And Gilliland’s colleague, General Dynamics CEO and Chairman Phebe Novakovic entered the top 10 for the first time, landing at number seven. Will either of these late blooming candidates rise to the top five or even number one? It isn’t impossible.
