John Goodman, CEO of Accenture Federal Services, Inducted Into 2018 Wash100 for His Leadership in Expanding Cyber Defense Services

Executive Mosaic is honored to introduce John Goodman, president of Accenture Federal Services, as the newest inductee into Wash100 — Executive Mosaic’s annual selection of influential leaders in the government contracting arena — for his management of the company’s diverse as-a-service offerings and acquisition leadership which has allowed AFS to broaden its cyber portfolio.

Goodman assumed his current role in November after serving as chief operating officer of AFS. In an interview with ExecutiveBiz, the 20-year company veteran cited cloud capabilities, analytics, cyber and artificial intelligence as crucial emerging technologies in the federal market. “We are investing in the future, especially in artificial intelligence. We believe that A.I. has the capacity to help make the government more responsive, more efficient and more effective,” said Goodman. “A.I. will improve how government agencies respond to citizens, process claims, and analyze data to solve problems — that’s just a few of the opportunities we’re exploring.”

As part of efforts to expand Accenture’s cyber defense services, Goodman has spearheaded several recent acquisitions. These include the buyout of Defense Point Security in December 2016 and announced purchase of Endgame, an endpoint detection and response software provider, in February 2017 . Last August, Accenture’s federal services business acquired Phase One Consulting Group in an effort to broaden its cloud services for the market.

“We are particularly excited about the change in the market as it relates to cyber. These acquisitions enable us to broaden the range of services we offer – from strategy to securing applications within the infrastructure,” Goodman told ExecutiveBiz. “For smaller agencies, we can deliver very similar assets through our security operations centers and provide as-a-service capabilities to our clients.”

Goodman also said that the company backs the Transportation Security Administration‘s employee recruitment efforts, referencing the human capital contract it was awarded in December 2016. “We support the TSA Office of Human Capital in recruiting and hiring 8,000-10,000 personnel each year. This involves hiring employees for critical field positions, including transportation security officers, federal air marshals and field management administrative and professional positions,” he said.

Goodman previously held other senior leadership roles at AFS, including managing director of defense and intelligence, and head of management consulting for the firm’s global public service operating group. His federal government career involves time spent as deputy defense undersecretary for industrial affairs and installations and serving as a former member of the National Economic Council. He is an AFS board member and chair of the Professional Services Council’s executive committee.

Executive Mosaic congratulates John Goodman and the Accenture team for their selection to receive this award.
