John Goodman, Accenture Federal Services CEO, Earns 6th Wash100 Award for Digital Transformation Support & Apprenticeship Program Leadership
Executive Mosaic is honored to induct John Goodman, CEO of Accenture Federal Services, into the 2023 Wash100 in recognition of his leadership over the past year in growing the company’s footprint in government digital transformation programs and promoting access to technology career opportunities.
This year marks the 10th iteration of Executive Mosaic’s prestigious award for leaders driving the government contracting ecosystem and the sixth consecutive time Goodman has been chosen to receive this award.
Under Goodman’s leadership, the federal business of Accenture has received several contracts from civilian, defense, intelligence, health care and public safety customers to support their tech modernization goals through the company’s cloud computing and data management services.
In March 2022, AFS secured a five-year, $118 million contract to automate and standardize data sharing processes at the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs.
“Emerging technologies play an essential role in how quickly and efficiently federal agencies can glean meaningful insights from their data assets,” Goodman said at the time.
In July, AFS’ Novetta subsidiary was selected to compete for task orders under a six-year, $762 million contract to provide a range of subject matter expertise in support of the U.S. Air Force’s Visible Accessible Understandable Linked Trusted platform.
The award comes nearly one year after Accenture acquired the analytics company from global investment firm The Carlyle Group to complement the federal subsidiary’s work in the national security sector and add digital capabilities.
“I’m especially proud of how everyone embraced the opportunity to go beyond bringing our two companies together—by challenging ourselves to be something greater than what we first imagined,” Goodman wrote in a LinkedIn post to mark the transaction’s first anniversary.
The company holds a spot on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Accelerating VA Innovation and Learning contract valued at $650 million and received a separate $189 million contract to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s migration to the cloud.
AFS is helping U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command deploy a cloud-hosted service management system under a five-year contract awarded in August 2022, as part of a partnership with Carahsoft on the Department of Defense Enterprise Software Initiative.
In early December, AFS and the Partnership for Public Service published a report proposing a customer-focused approach to new product and service development.
The “Designing a Government for the People: Collaborative Approaches to Federal Customer Experience” outlines recommendations for federal agencies to shift to a customer-centric mindset and deliver seamless and secure experiences. It recommends that the Biden administration create a comprehensive data-sharing policy infrastructure, make customer data accessible for designing a better customer experience and invest in digital talent and infrastructure to achieve consistency in customer service.
Also last year, AFS launched an apprenticeship and apprenticeship-in-training program at its Advanced Technology Center in St. Louis to help industry bridge the digital skills gap.
“With this ribbon-cutting to officially open the ATC Center and launch our St. Louis apprenticeship program, AFS is expanding access to digital economy jobs for diverse constituencies, including underserved communities, early career and second career people, veterans, and military spouses,” Goodman remarked.
Goodman held various roles of increasing responsibility during his more-than-two-decade career at Accenture, including as managing director of the defense and intelligence group and head of management consulting for the global public service operating group.
He serves on the board of the Atlantic Council and the Northern Virginia Technology Council and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
